Application Process 

All healthcare professionals working with people facing serious illness are welcome to apply. Previous cohorts have included nurses, nurse practitioners, social workers, physicians, chaplains, psychologists, medical assistants, case managers, music therapists, and other allied health workers. Contact us at pctc@uw.edu to discuss how the Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care can elevate your practice.  

For students currently enrolled or accepted into the UW DNP Program, please use the Enrolled or Accepted UW Graduate/Doctoral Student link below

For all other applicants, please use the General Application link below and complete the following steps 

  1. For first-time users, click the “Create an account” link to start a new application 
  2. You will receive a confirmation email with a link and temporary pin to activate your account 

  3. In the “Program Selection” section of the application, select “Graduate,” then search for program name, “Nursing - Grad Cert Prog - Palliative Care” 

  4. If you decide to return later to complete your application, use the Apply Now below and select “Log in” under the heading, “Returning Users”  

The application for priority admission is due on May 1, 2025. All applications are due by July 15, 2025. Admission notifications are sent in the month following application deadlines.

Required Items

  1. Two letters of recommendation: (providing their impression of the applicant as related to the following criteria: clinical competence, teaching and supervisory potential or ability, personality and integrity, and potential for leadership and professional development) with the 2 recommenders from the following options (Recommenders will receive email prompting them to submit online recommendations for you):
    1. clinical recommendation from current clinical supervisor
    2. clinical recommendation from a peer or previous supervisor
    3. academic recommendation, such as one from a clinical, class instructor or preceptor
  2. A statement of purpose indicating why you are interested in the Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care and how will you use the training in your daily work. 
  3. Resume or CV
  4. Official electronic transcript of last/highest post-secondary education 

Financing for the Program

Limited scholarships are offered based on available funds each year. Awards are prioritized to expand interprofessional representation and access for people with limited alternative funding sources. Scholarship applications are considered once admission decisions have been made after the final July 15th deadline. Please email us at PCTC@uw.edu for additional questions or to further discuss funding with a member of our team. 

As you explore funding options, you may consider other sources that students have used to support their training:  

  • Financial aid and student loans may be available for eligible students concurrently enrolled in a degree-granting program 

  • Continuing education funds through work or professional organizations 

  • Funds from department / organization to support institutional goals or professional development 

  • Institutional grant support or funds from other awards / scholarships 

  • Gifts from friends, family, and crowdsourcing campaigns
